I have forgiven Atiku-Obasanjo
Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday in Abeokuta said that he had forgiven his former vice-president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku as well as any other persons perceived to have offended him of any sin.
The relationship between Atiku and Obasanjo since 2006 has been sore since Atiku’s alleged role in scuttling the third-term agenda of his boss.
He spoke while reacting to the request of the Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF) who paid him a courtesy visit after their two-day meeting held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
As a leader and father, Obasanjo said he bore no grudge against anybody and if there was any, he had forgiven them.
But addressing the NYLF yesterday, Obasanjo said “on the request that you made yesterday, I do not have any grudge against anybody. And if there is any, I have forgiven all as a father.”
Obasanjo appreciated the group for coming to Abeokuta to make case for a way forward for the country saying that since 2003, efforts of the forum had been noteworthy.
The statesman also expressed delight that the forum was concerned about the unity of the country added :”I am happy that you have also charged NYLF to continue by ensuring that credible leaders are elected into political office in the country, particularly in 2015″.
Earlier in his address, leader of the delegation and National Chairman of NLYF, Comrade Elliot Afiyo had said that the leadership was in Abeokuta to visit Obasanjo “and to identify with his vision for our great country, Nigeria.”
“We have come to Obasanjo as a father indeed, elder statesman for sure, an advanced citizen per excellence, an honest and forthright leader, courageous and bold democrat, a loving and compassionate”.
He stressed that with such positive attributes, Obasanjo has no option or alternative than “to chastise and later forgive and embrace both the good and bad characters.
“In view of this, we humbly request that you forgive your former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of whatever political sin or offence he might have committed against you. We bow our ourselves before you on his behalf and plead for mercy and understanding.”
He added that the mission to come and plead for Atiku “does not in any way stop you (Obasanjo) from charting any noble political course for the nation come 2015.”
The group also solicited the commitment of Obasanjo in finding lasting solution “o the incessant blood shedding in the country, particularly the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East and the communal clashes in Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba and Kogi states.”
While boasting that the group would definitely shape the direction of any election as witnessed in 2003, 2007,and 2011, Afiyo added that the body had collectively and unanimously decided to come and consult Obasanjo “as the oracle of a better Nigeria before taking any decision because of our numerical strength of over 12 million registered members.
What To Do When You Want To Give Up
When you shoot for the stars you risk falling flat on your face; and while you may bounce back quickly the first time, for many, it becomes more difficult to rise again when the pathetic results don’t match the tremendous effort.
“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”.
Well what if you have lost enthusiasm?
What happens if you have hit rock bottom and want to give up?
Consider these four strategies before you throw in the towel:
1. Learn the lesson
What’s the point of experiencing the pain of failure if you’re not going to capture a valuable lesson from it? The more you’re willing learn from failure, the less it will intimidate you. When you experience those slumps, refuse to sell yourself the sob story of, “It’s because I’m just not good enough”, or “It’s just not meant to be”; you don’t learn lessons from that kind of self-talk! Instead, focus on improving your strategies; “What am I doing wrong?” or “How can I stay more focused?”
Questions to consider:
- How can this set back make me stronger?
- What can I learn from this failure?
2. Revisit your motivation
When things are bad, negativity will keep you from seeing things as they really are. Rather than focusing your attention on all of your deficiencies, take a few minutes to reflect on why you decided to take this journey in the first place. Keeping things in perspective will give you the strength to keep your head up and run against the wind.
Questions to consider:
- What do I want to accomplish?
- How do I want to be remembered?
- What do I want to become in the process?
3. Make a plan
Its been said,
“Without a plan, there’s no attack. Without attack, no victory.”
The key to triumph is to plan for it. Rock bottom is the perfect place to start building, so while you’re down there, design the blue print for your future success.
Questions to consider:
In order to be successful…
- What do I need to start doing?
- What do I need to stop doing?
- What do I need to continue to do?
4. Keep it simple
Refuse to fall into the trap of trying to make up for all of your mistakes at one time. If your plans for success require a complete mental and behavioral overhaul—start small. Focus on one thing you need to improve, and develop it until it becomes a habit; then move on to the next one. When you’re starting over, you need to recommit to focusing on the process; and if you consistently do so, the results will follow.
Questions to consider:
- What are my priorities?
- What can I control right now?
If you’re currently lying on the canvas listening to the referee counting you out; take courage in knowing that anyone who’s ever achieved great things has experienced the pain of being knocked down—so you’re in good company. Take a deep breath. Get up. Get going.

Shut Up and Stop Embarrassing the Emirate, Emir Ado Bayero Tells Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
More troubles mount for suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor,
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Kano Emirate sends emissaries to the
presidency disassociating itself from recent comments credited to the
ousted CBN Governor disparaging the Nigerian government, the Presidency
and President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Pointblanknews.com authoritatively reports that reacting to bitter
complaints from the Presidency over Sanusi Lamido's attacks and disregard
to Federal authorities, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero
personally chided Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, urging him to, 'shut up and stop
embarrassing the Kano Emirate.'
A reliable source from Kano Emirate Council told Pointblanknews.com that
Emir Ado Bayero has continued to express concern over Sanusi Lamido
Sanusi's actions and utterances since he was suspended as CBN Governor.
'In fact, I must tell you that His Highness, Alhaji Ado Bayero is upset
over recent comments credited to Majen Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The entire Kano Emirate is also not happy with the way our son and a
Prince of this Kingdom is going about making unguided statements. It does
not sy well of the good image and hard-earned integrity of the Kano
Emirate. The Emir and the Emirate Council feel very embarrassed over
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's recent actions and we have ordered him to tread
with caution,' a highly placed Chief in Kano Emirate Council told
Pointblanknews.com.
Already, the Emirate Council has sent a delegation to the Presidency with
a mandate to apologize to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan over recent
comments and actions of the suspended CBN Governor.
The high-power delegation led by Dan Massanin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama
Sule and made up of respected elders, members of the Kano Ruling House and
representatives of the Emirate were mandated to apologize to President
Jonathan on behalf of the Kano people and the Emirate Council.
Even among residents and indigenes of the ancient commercial city, many
have expressed surprise that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who is a front-line
contender of Ado Bayero's seat could take actions capable of putting to
question the integrity and honour of Kano Emirate Council.
Malam Abdullahi Ibrahim Doguwa, a political analyst described Lamido
Sanusi Lamido as a hero who shot himself on the arm, 'when he assumed
office as CBN Governor, he exhibited characters that made us proud. We
were really proud of him; but he dug his own grave when he missed up his
assignment as CBN Governor with politics and political agenda.
'Sanusi Lamido Sanusi offered himself to be used and dumped by desperate
politicians who exploited his 'busy body' and loquaciousness to achieve
their selfish agenda; while watching in laughter as the Kano prince
crashed his own career and integrity in such a tragic way. As it is now,
he is on the verge of losing everything as his shameful outing at the CBN
has seriously damaged his chances of becoming the Emir of Kano-a dream
that is so dear to him.'
Most residents are also frowning at recent romance between embattled
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Kano state Governor, Dr. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso as
they remind the Governor of the Sanusi of the early years of 2000 when
Kwankwaso as Kano state Governor (during his first term) threatened to
withdraw government's patronage of UBA if Sanusi was not sacked by the
bank.
Pointblanknews.com recalls that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a staff of UBA, at
that time, in his characteristic mannerism, unwholesomely attacked
Kwankwaso's government leveling llegations of misgovernance and financial
misconduct.
Alhaji Khalid Inuwa, a Kwankwasiyya movement adherent, urged Governor
Kwankwaso to be wary of Lamido Sanusi Lamido because, 'once beaten, twice
shy; we cannot forget in a hurry, how Sanusi Lamido Sanusi tried in vein
to smear the name and image of His Excellency, Governor Rabi'u Musa
Kwankwaso. I believe Governor Kwankwaso should be very careful with Sanusi
Lamido because he is not trudt worthy.'
SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI AND EMIR ADO BAYERO'S SEAT
Pointblanknews.com recalls that in July 2012 when Emir Ado Bayero returned
from London, the Emir expressed his angy with a number of Chiefs in his
Emirate who were accused of collecting 'gifts' from Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
to influence his ambition of succeeding Ado Bayero upon his death.
Pointblanknews.com reports that the Emir's trip to London generated a lot
of rumours with divided speculations of the Emir's health condition. While
many believed that Emir Bayero was in coma, others had believed that the
Kano Royal Father had died in a London hospital.
However, the Emir's surprised return to Kano dispelled all the rumours as
thousands of his supporters and Palace Guards welcomed him amidts fanfare.
The Royal Father, in a long convoy, moved round from Malam Aminu Kano
International Airport (MAKIA) to his Palace. Then, there was serious power
play within the Kano Emirate.
Pointblanknews.com also learnt that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was installed
as Majen Kano by Emir Bayero was desperately interested to become the next
Emir of Kano. It was learnt from a reliable source that Sanusi Lamido, in
a bid to actualize his dream, doled out billions of Naira (illegally
remitted from CBN coffers) to king makers so as to protect his interest
and appoint him Ado Bayero's successor. In fact, a source revealed that
each of those that matters within the Emirate Council received a 'gift' of
N1 billion as an inducement to pursue and protect the embattled banker's
interest.
Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Sanusi's desperation to become the
Emir of Kano made him to secretly apologize to Governor Rabi'u Musa
Kwankwaso who would have been a stumbling block to his ambition. This
medium recalls that Kwankwaso and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi were at daggers
drawn during the former's first-term as Governor of Kano state. At that
time, the CBN governor, reputed for his radical criticism of Kwankwaso's
policy incurred the wrath of Governor Kwankwaso who had sworn to frustrate
all his interest. Meanwhile, social critics and watchers of the unfolding
scenario at Kano Emirate Council are of the view that the trouble of Emir
Bayero's successor remains a time-bomb capable of wreaking havoc upon
explosion.
However, the question remains, is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's desperation to
climb the Kano's traditional stool a move to restore the integrity of his
grandfather, Emir Sanusi who was dethroned and banished from the Kano
emirate several years ago, or a burning desire to serve Kano and its
people? But with the current ropes of corruption and irresponsibility
entangling Sanusi Lamido Sanusi's tin neck, his dream of becoming the Emir
of Kano is realistically far-fetched.
The Town Hall Meetings And The Imposition Strategy In Akwa Ibom
Needless political heat is being generated in Akwa Ibom by its strong man, Gov. Akpabio, for reasons many already know. Perhaps, I should first extend a right hand of fellowship to those who have finally muscled some courage and inner strength to stand up against Akpabio. To many, Akpabio's tenure has been, simply a nightmare for about seven years now. Some are still being trapped like a canoe caught in swirling eddy at sea. It appears many have awoken and are now gasping for breath of fresh air.
Early last year in one of my postings, I likened Gov. Akpabio to an elephant in the room. And that by the time he leaves the room, much damage would have been done. I was not far from the target with that analogy. To many this might have sounded like a doomsday prophesy. Looking at Akpabio's deeds since coming to power in May 2007, one does not have to be a psycho-analyst to extrapolate his misdeeds. It's been very apparent that we've had an elephant in the room. Unless the people are willing to grap the tiger by the tail or something meaningful is accomplished in the ongoing National Confab, we are likely to be faced with yet another elephant in the room after Akpabio.
Anyone that pays attention to my writeup would notice that no sooner did Akpabio become the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum than things started to unraffle at the national scene. As the palance would say, "Emen ubok ukpopbo nsung ekekpopbo okwok". Some governors were immediately branded Judases, some were seen to be so hungry that HRH Akpabio had to serve them from starvation. Each 'starving' governor was to receive one million naira (about $7,000) for lunch from HRH. Like members of 'The Association of Nigerian Beggars', the 'Judases' rebelled and cross-carpeted! With that, the war of attrition in PDP commenced in earnest! Yes, elephant in the room in deed!
The Town Hall Charade and the Imposition Strategy
I recall the introduction of the first town hall meeting at Ibom Hall in Uyo by IPC in July of 2006. There were, at least, four Commissioners from the previous administration and a number of Akwa Ibom delegates from the United States in the panel. Questions were freely asked by the curious citizens. I recall a lady asking about the IPP project which was yet to take off ground but so much money was reported to have already been expended. At the end, many left the hall satisfied. By this gathering, we were making an inroad in search of democracy.
Here in the country our residence, a law maker organizes town hall meetings at regular intervals to be able to interact with members of his constituency whom he is representing. Gathering like this is when the voters have opportunities to ask the law maker tough questions on all issues. And it is also opportunity to suggest and share their concerns. They'd let him know how he is faring as in representing them effectively. The lawmaker would leave the gathering gauging the purse of the electorates and would assess and reassess his position on major issues and make amend where necessary bearing in mind the next round of election or re-election.
Now is this what we are seeing in Akwa Ibom? There is this thing going on called Town Hall Meeting. Just a few days ago I saw a couple of individuals, Victor Unuyu and Bassey Uwe,professing to speak for Oro Solidarity Movement chastising one Hon. Enefiok Ekefre for daring to criticize Governor Akpabio on this town hall charade. My comment to the two is that Hon. Ekefre as Akwa Ibom citizen has every right to criticize or condemn what he believes to be a travesty embarked by the government that is of no benefit to the citizens. The fact that must be borne in mind is whatever Gov. Akpabio does or does not do affects the life of every indigene of the state; and Hon. Ekefre is one of such indigenes. On the converse, what Hon. Ekefre does or does not do, might not have such profound effects on every citizen of the state, certainly not on any part of Oro nation. It is quite interesting to notice that the duo suddenly found a voice to condemn Ekefre for exercising his rights as a citizen.
Somehow, I am wondering if the duo ever heard of the name Chief (Hon.) Effiong Ononokpono from Okobo, an Oro man? Did the duo care to know what crime Chief Ononokpono committed that led to his incarceration by Akpabio, an act which ultimately culminated in Chief Ononokpono's untimely death on Dec. 7, 2010? The Chief did not commit any crime. The question is, Why didn't the duo speak up and out on this bravado? Was Chief Ononokpono not Oro enough? There are endless catalogue of unsavory deeds committed by Gov. Akpabio and his government over the years. Effort for him to whitewash these atrocities and misdeeds with endless arranged-awards, radio and television adverts, wasting people's money to extol himself is fruitless at best. The town hall meeting is one of such wastes.
As in many previous events in Akwa Ibom, we're following closely these town hall charades. As Ekefre asked, assuming that these are real town hall meetings, why now? Everyone knows that Akpabio has barely a year to remain in office (if at all), why the continuous waste of the people resources? Most Akwa Ibomites are well aware that Akpabio is campaigning to legitimize his future rigging strategy or imposition of the candidates of his choice under the cover of town hall meetings. I want to believe that Akwa Ibomites are now wiser.
In one of the meetings held at Abak, it was reported that former DIG Ekpoudom in raising his concern said to the governor 'Some of your aides are causing a lot of problems . Some of them openly boast to the people that what God cannot do and money cannot do, Gun can do.' In his response, Akpabio reportedly told his commissioners, one after another, to stand up and when they did, he bemused and said '. these are some of my aides, do they look like people who can shoot guns?" This response was like Adolf Hitler asking the Jews, "Have you ever seen me with a gun (or a gas tank)?"
As for DIG Ekpoudom, I sympathize somewhat with him. I am sure he was in Akwa Ibom months leading to what was supposed to be a gubernatorial election in 2011. I believe he was not unaware of the spates of killing that turned the once peaceful state into a killing field. As a retired top security guru in Nigeria, Chief Ekpoudom said nothing then when the "Jews" were killed in Akwa Ibom because he was not a "Jew". Nonetheless, response he got from Akpabio was very typical and needless to say that it was just embarrassing, especially, as it came from a governor of a state. Having seen many governors in and outside Nigeria and having heard and seen many of Akpabio's utterances, I would dare say that in future, nobody with this level of intelligence should ever find himself in any elective position in Akwa Ibom, nay Nigeria.
My suggestion to DIG Ekpoudom is that from now henceforth, he should make the establishment of credible democracy in Akwa Ibom his pilot project. Someone like him deserves a greater respect, in fact, prostration by Akpabio. But as long as elders like him are the ones cheering Akpabio on, the outcome whether now or in the future will not be any different.

FINALLY EXPOSED: What Really Killed Abacha, By One of his closest men, Revealed
Do you know that the flesh of late General Sani Abacha was cut and send to Germany and another body part cut and send to the United Kingdom? Well, these are some of the revelations one of his closest men back then is letting out. General Jeremiah Useni (rtd) gives detailed information about what happened:
It's no secret that you always had your time with him in the evenings. Achacha's last 24 hours before his death, how were they like? What actually killed Abacha? Well, it is true that I always saw him in the evening. One thing I made sure was that I never took official matters to him. I never went there to gossip. As I said, we had been long time friends. Some times I would wait up till 11pm or 12 mid-night so that he would have finished with all those people who would normally take their problems to him. I think that day I just came back from Gusau and I was feeling tired and I thought I would take the evening off. But once I came in, I got a telephone call from the Villa that they were waiting for me there. I think it was the day (late) Yasser Arafat came to Nigeria and Abacha was to receive him. In fact, by the time we finished Abacha himself was very tired because he slept all through the evening on our way back from the airport.
So I told people that the man was tired they should allow him rest. So I went back to meet him around 10pm or so and I left him around 2:30am. The next morning around 10:30 I think I had two administrators with me in the office when another call came. They said they were waiting for me at the Villa and I got a bit upset that why must they always wait for me at the Villa, every time they are waiting for me, they are waiting for me. When I got to the Villa, they said Abacha died. I said, died? But I was with him till very late.
The story people have refused to let go of is that you were both out very late, enjoying and drinking with some woman and that he ate apple and died of possible poisoning from the apple?
People said all that, about apple poisoning him, some women poisoned him and all that. There is an autopsy report on what killed him.
But the autopsy report could bee doctored to protect him?
Doctored how? They cut his body and sent to Germany. The report that came back said Abacha died of natural causes. They cut his body again and sent to the United Kingdom, the report that came back said he died of natural causes. The man had been ill any way.
They (the military council) by-passed you because they felt you had a hand in his death?
Yes! I was suspected, and they made Abdulsalami head of state, though militarily, I was the most senior officer at that time.
Keshi mum on query
Head coach of the Nigerian national team, Stephen Keshi says he will not be drawn into commenting on the query issued to him by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday.
Keshi was accused of travelling out of Nigeria without the permission of the NFF.
He was also accused of intentionally sitting out the meeting of the NFF’s technical committee in Abuja on Tuesday when he instead opted to parley with Nigerian journalists in Lagos.
"It is important we draw your attention to previous actions whereby you travel out of Nigeria without NFF's express permission.
"Specifically, you travelled out of Nigeria before 13 February 2014, the day President Jonathan received the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) team, causing us huge embarrassment.
"Your request for leave approved by the NFF was from 15 February - 10 March 2014 but you left before 13 February and returned 26 March.
"The Technical Committee meeting on 25 March was called off because you said you had flight hitches from USA.
"As a responsible organisation, we have no other option than to issue you a query to explain how all these events unfolded," part of the letter read.
Keshi has now voiced his sentiments about the development.
“I don’t really want to comment on this because a lot of people will misinterpret what I will say. Let them (NFF) accuse me of everything, I really don’t care.
“I want to concentrate on my job of building a strong team. That’s the most important thing.
“I pray that the work I have been doing to build a strong Nigerian team for the World Cup comes out well because it will also be great for Africa.
“I will not say anything about the query but when it gets to a point, I will say something.
“Right now, I will be quiet but when I am ready to talk, you will be the first to hear,” Keshi exclusively told supersport.com.
Keshi has endured a fractious relationship with the NFF since he took the reins of the Nigeria national team in 2011.
He quit as Super Eagles coach a day after leading Nigeria to victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa after it was rumoured that the NFF had finalized plans to sack him.
He eventually rescinded his decision following entreaties from several quarters but has never really had the most smooth-running relations with the NFF.

Immigration Recruitment Tragedy: Jonathan In More Dilemma
The ill-fated recruitment exercise carried out by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is one among many negative issues yawning unfriendly at President Goodluck Jonathan in the electioneering year. As pressure mounts on him to sack his Interior Minister, Abba Moro, pundits say this as another litmus test for the president. GEORGE AGBA examines the development.
Uneasy lays the head that wears the crown” is an age-long term which fits into President Goodluck Jonathan’s predicament at the moment as a leader of Africa most populous country. Just as one would have expected that he would soon wriggle out of one quandary, another problem, often more grievous than the previous, arises and stare him in the face.
It is even more of a piteous fate for the Otuoke born university teacher when it is considered that he is not directly the cause of the legions of problems stalking his presidency.
The recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) at different venues across the country which led to the death of over 20 Nigerian job seekers is the latest of such precarious situation the Jonathan presidency is contending with at the moment.
Apparently, the gory incident on that fateful Saturday in which unemployed graduates, including three pregnant women died as a result of the stampede which occurred at Benin, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja and Minna is another litmus test for Jonathan to prove his discretion as a leader.
Some Nigerians are calling for the removal of Interior Minister, Comrade Abba Moro whose ministry supervises the NIS, while others insist the consultancy firm that conducted the recruitment exercise should be made to pay dearly for the national disaster.
While the tragic incidence is under investigation as ordered by the Senate, some other set of Nigerians considered in government circle as unhealthy subjects to hasty generalization are opining that nothing would happen to the embattled minister because Senate President, David Mark will be right on track to save his job.
But what do these individuals think of President Jonathan; that he is naïve and impractical leader who is always willing to bow to pressure from influential elements within the hierarchy? Keen observers say they are waiting curiously to see how it goes.
But history has a way of vindicating the just. Nigerians can’t claim to have forgotten so soon the last recruitment exercise by the NIS in 2012 which ended in a flop. The problem with that particular exercise was that it was done surreptitiously without advertisements.
And most persons alleged that its nepotistic approach was a ploy to favour candidates from one part of the country above other. The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character summoned Mrs Rose Uzoma who was Comptroller General of Immigration then.
Despite the defence she put up that the NIS conducted the employment exercise in a classified manner because it didn’t want to admit terrorists into the Service, President Jonathan approved Uzoma’s sack in January 2013, just three months to the end of her tenure.
The exercise was eventually cancelled. To ensure a more transparent exercise, the NIS decided to openly advertise the instant case of recruitment which led to the death of the over 20 Nigerians.
Just like the last one, the storm blew again, even more horrifically. Apart from the death toll recorded, the issue of candidates being charged N1,000 each for the registration process is projecting the federal government in bad light. The thinking is that a government that would ask its jobless citizen to pay for a recruitment process must be crude and insensitive.
But what is the president’s own in the recruitment saga? There is no inkling so far that Jonathan intends to shield anybody. Some days after the tragic event, he summoned the minister and the Immigration boss, Paradang to his office where he grilled them for hours before proceeding to the inaugural ceremony of the National Conference. He was said to have informed them that whatever the outcome of investigation into the matter may be, they were on their own.
Sources in the president’s office told LEADERSHIP that Moro got the bashing of his life for saying the applicants were the architect of their own misfortune. Jonathan, it was learnt, asked the minister to explain what he meant by saying the applicants lost their lives due to impatience and not following the laid down procedure spelt out to them before the exercise.
Since then, the minister has kept mum on the issue, save for his associates and family members who have been running from pillar to post to give him a clean bill of health.
On Sunday, someone who claimed to be Moro’s cousin, Major Agbo came out to say he was speaking on behalf of the minister’s family. In a statement, he quoted the Moro family of accusing the consultancy firm which conducted the exercise of doing a clumsy and shoddy job.
Agbo said, “If the consultancy firm had done its job properly, it would have carried proper online screening of the applicants with the aim to prune down the size that would be invited for the screening exercise having in mind the existing vacancies.
“We do not want to be in a hurry to indict the consultancy firm that handled the exercise in order not to preempt the investigative panel already in place but will at the interim condemn the shoddy and clumsy fashion with which the exercise was conducted.
“As the Head of the ministry, the task of overseeing the conduct of the exercise rested strictly with the Minister through the CG of NIS, what happened at the field did not reflect the numerous assurances received by the Honourable Minister from the consultants that all was going on smoothly”.
“On sensing that indicting the recruitment firm would add salt to the minister’s injury, another family member who identified himself as Chief Joseph Moro disassociated the family from the statement issued by Major Agbo.
He described Agbo as an impostor who probably had been employed by the opposition to do a hatchet by rubbing the minister in the mud. Chief Joseph shifted the blame for the recruitment tragedy to the opposition, even as he suggested that since the stampede happened in centres within the opposition states, the opposition party must have masterminded the disaster to colour the government in power bad.
What the blame game appears to be implying is that Comrade Moro is on his own as President Jonathan rightly told him. Aware that if nothing is done fast enough to launder his image before the president and other powers that be, the minister’s job would be in the pipeline.
In this regard, Major Agbo said, “The Honourable Minister has gone down in history as one of the best local government chairmen Benue state in particular and the country in general has had, having served as ALGON chairman in Benue and having received numerous awards as best serving local government chairman in the federation in the past.
“The Honourable Minister has over time, been known as a man of integrity, honesty, dedication to duty, thoroughness, commitment and we are still at a loss as to what probably may have gone wrong with this exercise. The Honourable Minister is a member of the family and known seriously for his respect for sanctity of lives of people and cannot in anyway, celebrate the death of any human being as being insinuated in some quarters, but will however show respect for the opinions of individuals who have painted him in different light other than what we know about him”.
On his own, the president has taken positive steps to placate Nigerians and the family of the dead jobseekers. He cancelled the recruitment exercise that claimed their lives. Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku noted after last week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) that the president’s cancellation of the recruitment exercise came with a directive that families of the deceased should be given three slots each in the Nigerian Immigration Service to be filled by their family members in the fresh recruitment, adding that one out of the three must be a female.
He said a special committee chaired by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FRSC), Mrs Joan Ayo had been set up by the president to conduct a fresh recruitment exercise to fill the vacancies in the Nigeria Immigration Service.
But like a phoenix, the controversy trailing the tragic death of the unemployed graduates in the ill-fated recruitment exercise got a life of its own the next day after the president reeled out his palliative measures.
Four Nigerian lawyers last Thursday dragged the federal government to court where they are seeking to enforce the fundamental human rights of the applicants who participated in the gory exercise.
In the suit filed before a Federal High Court in Abuja, the four legal practitioners namely, Charles Ugwuonye, Friday Danladi Yakson, Chinedu Rosemary Onwuka and Samson Ojo invoked the jurisdiction of the court, praying for an order to enable them enforce the fundamental rights to life, protection from inhuman degrading treatment and right to dignity of the human person.
Other rights being sought for by the applicants under sections 33, 34, 42 and 44 of the 1999 constitution and the equivilant of articles of the African Charter on human and peoples rights act include right against discrimination on the basis of the circumstances of birth and right against unlawful taking of a person’s property.
The plaintiffs, in an affidavit in support of their application told the court that the president’s statement promising the victims of the recruitment debacle “automatic employment” is not only a cover up for the incompetence demonstrated by the relevant authorities but is also lacking in credibility, “as it failed to specify the people it defines as a victim, given that the dead applicants cannot possible accept any employment from the Government of Nigeria.
“The pronouncement by the President or the Presidency offering ‘automatic employment’ to the ‘victims’ is merely a ploy to disunite the victims and prevent them from seeking justice as united group”, the 45-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Mr Chris Ebosie noted.
It is certainly not the best of times for the president. Every step he takes to address the recruitment saga would always be interpreted to mean something else.
With the 2015 general elections tingling around the corner, pundits believe strongly that negative occurrences like the tragic recruitment exercise is not a good omen for a president whose political ambition had received series of knocks even before it was hatched.

Osaze begs Keshi for last chance
Stoke striker Osaze Odemwingie is keeping his fingers crossed for a World Cup call as he attempts to put a difficult year behind him.
The 32-year-old endured a testing 2013 after finding himself on the periphery at former club West Brom following the collapse of a proposed deadline-day move to QPR before a brief and unsuccessful spell at Cardiff.
However, he appears to have revived his career since joining the Potters in January, and having repaired his relationship with Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, with whom he had a very public fall-out in 2012, he has not given up hope of a summer trip to Brazil.
Osaze Odemwingie
Odemwingie told the Stoke Sentinel: “I had a stressful 2013, now I just take it week to week.
”I have a son who will be born in the summer and I have another already making me really happy.
”It’s how I think now after last year, that things can always be worse. Today I already have more than I wanted three months ago.
”Everything else is a bonus, but every player would love to go the World Cup.
”If things seem right for me and, most importantly, I am made to feel like I could help the team, then why not? We will see.”
I will kick out Eagles strayers, says Keshi
Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi has vowed to kick out any Eagles player who contravenes camp rules during Nigeria’s forthcoming campaign at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Eagles have been drawn in Group F alongside Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran, who they play in their opening match on June 16 in Curitiba.
Sorry Sight… Super Eagles players face the agony of defeat after falling to Ghana’s Black Stars on 4-1 penalties. But today they are ready to make amends with the third place match against Zimbabwe.
With the bandwagon of WAGS preparing to descend on Brazil this summer for the greatest football showpiece event, concerns are being raised over players ability to cope with the distractions that might come from having such bevvy of beauties cluttering around teams hotels.
And speaking on how he will control the distractions in his team, Keshi said that “ I think little respect has been given to the current Super Eagles squad. Apart from what happened in Namibia, we have not had any chaos. I’m proud of my players and know that Brazil is just like Nigeria.
“The Nigerian life is similar to that in Brazil and the boys are in good hands but anybody that drags the name of Nigeria in the mind will be thrown out immediately”, warned Keshi.

Dangote bids highest for Shell’s gas field
Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man is planning to acquire a stake in a Nigerian gas field owned by Shell.
Forbes online quoting a report by Africa Intelligence, said Dangote Industries submitted the highest bid for Shell’s stake in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 18 at an auction organized last year in the Niger Delta region. The financial details of the bid and the exact stake Dangote is looking to acquire are undisclosed.
Shell is currently the operator of the Alakiri Creek plant on the OML 18 field. The Alakiri Creek plant processes 80 million standard cubic feet per day (MMpc/d), but has the potential to rise to 120 million square feet per day (mmsf/d). The OML 18 field is said to have reserves of close to 1.5 billion barrel of oil equivalent (BOE) of gas.
This is not the first time Dangote would make an attempt to acquire an asset owned by the Dutch oil major. In 2010 Dangote put in a bid for Shell’s 45% stake on OML 30, but lost his bid to Conoil Producing, an exploration company owned by billionaire Mike Adenuga. The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the exploration and production subsidiary of the Nigerian government-owned oil company would later cancel the sale of the stake to Adenuga and sell it to London-listed Heritage Oil PLC. Shell has recently been divesting from some of its key Nigerian assets in the wake of crude oil theft and weak refining margins.
Dangote, who made his $24 billion fortune trading cement, sugar and flour, has recently ramped up his efforts to boost his investments in Nigeria’s booming oil sector.
While his largest and most publicized investment in the energy sector is a planned $9 billion private oil refinery in Nigeria, Dangote also owns minority stakes in a handful of oil exploration concerns, including a 9% stake in block 1 in the Joint Development Zone between Nigeria and Sao Tome, where Chevron is the operator. He also owns a 10% stake of block 3 in the JDZ.

U-17 Women’s World Cup Q/Final: Nigeria Plot Spain’s Fall
Nigeria’s Flamingoes go into the quarter final match against Spain
with one thing on the back of their minds: that they must secure the
semi final ticket of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup at all
costs.
Flamingoes coach Bala Nikyu has declared that he has a winning strategy in place to dismantle Spain for the semi-final ticket in the match that will be played 3 a.m. on Friday Nigerian time at the Edgardo Baltodano Stadium in Liberia.
“We would ensure that we win this game within the allotted time and we are looking at the possibility of not allowing the game to be dragged into a penalty shoot-out,” said Nikyu who further reinstated his resolve for glory.
“Yes, I agree that Spain has been making progress since they started but they won’t progress (beyond the quarterfinal) at the expense of Nigeria on Friday.”
Though sounding very optimistic that the match would be won by his glory-seeking side within the regulation time, Coach Nikyu and his assistants are not taking chances as they drill and perfect penalty kicks with the players at their last training session on Wednesday evening in Costa Rica.
The hopes of Flamingoes becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals were dashed as they were beaten on penalties by France, who went on to lift the trophy.
“Against Spain, there won’t be any margin for errors and we are paying proper attention to everything we have done and would do for this match,” Nikyu further told the players.
Nikyu said he is not under any pressure; rather, he has the belief that destiny already had something in store for Nigeria to win its first ever title in Costa Rica.
“Nigeria’s previous three appearances failed to yield success and we are here again in Costa Rica and I think we are destined to win this trophy,” he stated confidently.
Assistant coach Ann Chiejine says there won’t be any escape route for Spain. “The Flamingoes are different from the Super Eagles as we also have our good start in the campaign for the finals. We are very prepared and with no fear, as we are sure of winning the match,” she said confidently.
Chiejine admitted that it was a Herculean task for the Flamingoes to arrive at this stage, adding that her ladies are now toughened to withstand the rough and tumble stage of the competition.
“As I said earlier, the knockout stage is the most difficult stage of any competition but we are ready to beat Spain on Friday because our only aim of being here is to win the trophy,” noted Chiejine who was the first goalkeeper of the Super Falcons.
Assistant coach, Chiejine said as a matter of fact: “Like any team that is in the competition, we are here to win and we would try our best to beat Spain.”

FASHION & STYLES
THE STYLE NIGTH OUTThe fifth edition of the annual Style Night took place last weekend at Tribeca in Lagos. Organised by former model and publisher of FM & B ( Fashion, modeling and beauty ) magazine, Linda Ikeji, the crowd drawing event, is aimed at promoting and celebrating up coming designers by creating a platform for them to showcase their creativity. This year’s event featured four designers, Ambassador, Chinasa, Collins and Moofa.
Ambassador
Ambassador’s collection was all male designs, linen trousers and top, suits, blazers and matching shirts.Chinasa’s collection featured an eclectic mix of ankara in short dresses, mixed with other plain fabrics, and spiced with colourful stones. Her collection was also very young and fun. Collins like Chinasa had a mixed collection of both male and female outfits. Beside the male jackets and trendy jeans ensemble, the female outfits also paid tribute to ankara . The dresses were well embellished with sequins, stones and other materials. Moofa’s collection was set apart by unique detailing on each of her pieces. Her designs were colourful in rich fabrics like damask and embroidered linen. Some of her designs tilted towards vintage with matching hair pieces that the models carried off so nicely. In all, it was a night of music, fashion and lots of fun. WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BEING OVERDRESSEDNigerians have been severally rated by women of style as a people with great fashion sense. We love to dress up there is no denying that and this is irrespective of our social status. Both the rich and the poor like to impress. This quest to be the one to be noticed, is perhaps, responsible for why many people particularly women go over board with their dressing. With the many fashion magazines and fashion catalogues on the newsstand, you can almost predict that you will find a space in those magazines if you dress well to an event. But should it be too much? Angela a 30 year old business woman says, she wouldn’t call turning out in a skirt suit at a party where everyone is wearing jeans and t-shirt being overdressed. â€Å“I may just perhaps look better than many others there and I don’t see what is wrong with thatâ€. Like Angela, others spoken to also agree that it is better to be overdressed than to be under-dressed. â€Å“I’d feel so bad and depressed to come into a place casually dressed while everybody else is all done up says Tolu a banker. â€Å“If I dare enter such a room, I’m not sure I’d be able to leave my seat until the event is over because I’d be too ashamed to move aroundâ€. While the argument rages, it is better to dress appropriately to what event one is invited. If you don’t know what is appropriate, there is no harm in asking those who know. However, once in a while, people miss the dress code stipulated for certain events. If you are invited to have a drink with some friends, what good will it do to turn out in a ball dress with chandelier ear rings and embellished evening sandals? Even though you may be the best dressed, you’d agree that you’d feel a bit out of place because you are indeed over dressed. When such happens, here is what you should do. Nicely explain to your host or hostess that you were on your way from a very important formal party and because you didn’t want to disappoint her, you thought you should drop by and explain. Exchange a few pleasant greetings and take your leave. If you do feel like coming back, you can then go home and change into what is appropriate for that event. TRENDSAlthough extreme sexuality has been promoted in previous seasons, with short hemlines, plunging necklines and cut out form fitting designs, the season is currently taking attention away from the clothes and focusing instead on the wearer.Play down statement accessories and carefully pick dresses and accessories that truly grown up and timeless. The 50s is a great place to look to for inspiration. Choosing mature pieces doesn’t mean boring or laid back. Understatement helps to give an edge. Push down your hemlines a bit and be the lady for a change. Match your outfit with a lady-like bag especially th briefcase style shape and you right on time for the season’s look. ADORABLE WEDDING GOWNTo adorn a wedding gown is the dream of many young ladies. While many achieve this and have a blissful wedding day out, others who could not get their men to wed them whine and make it an issue in marriage.
Deborah Lindquist Wedding Gown
The variety of styles and details in modern wedding gowns
make it almost unbearable not to be married adorning one. A wedding day
for most young girls is like a fairytale story come true. Today, you
can customize your wedding to accommodate all the things you̢۪ve ever
imagined to do for your wedding. For Titi Johnson (not real names), it was also her dream to adorn a glamorous wedding gown until she found out that a two month old pregnancy was going to come between her and this dream she has nurtured for so long. Pretty Titi was 32 years old when she found out she was pregnant with child. By the time she realised she was pregnant, she was almost two months gone. Although she had been dating Chidi (surname withheld) for about five years, he had never proposed to her but they’ve had a good relationship that friends and family treat them as an item. As a vivacious, party loving and outgoing young lady, Titi was totally chattered by this development especially when she was faced with the early signs of pregnancy that totally threatened her robust social life. She was also confronted with how to break the news to Chidi as she didn’t want him to feel she was using the pregnancy to trap him into marrying her. However, when eventually she summed up courage to tell, him, contrary to her expectation, Chidi took the news in his stride and saw it as a good reason to marry the love of his life and save Titi the shame of having a child outside wedlock. Within a week, Chidi had consulted with his family and the first leg of the wedding preparation was fixed for two weeks time. Twelve years ago on a bright April afternoon, the wedding introduction was done and the wedding proper was fixed for June by which time, Titi would have been over four months gone. From then on, every arrangement was fast tracked. The poor groom was everywhere trying to raise money to marry the girl of his dream but for the party-loving-bride, she had only one worry. How would she look in a wedding gown with a four month old pregnancy? As the wedding plans progressed, so did this thought grow in the mind of Titi and the more she thought about it, the more the idea of a pregnant bride disgusted her. A diva like her would not walk down the isle in a distended tummy and in an unstylish dress. She made up her mind to address the issue and the only way around it, was to get rid of that pregnancy! â€Å“Others would come†she had reasoned. When she tabled the matter before Chidi, he was livid with rage and a big argument ensued. To him, the reason for the accelerated wedding was because of the pregnancy . He couldn’t understand why she was bringing this up at this time. Back and forth they argued but Titi would not shift her ground. Along with her conscience, she had the pregnancy terminated and it was explained that she lost the pregnancy. The wedding turned out to be the dream wedding she wished for. She waltzed into church on a fine June morning in a form fitting lace wedding gown. It was the era of lilac and purple so her wedding scheme was obvious. Her make up was flawless, her bouquet well arranged and her train looked pretty in the short ball gown in the wedding colour. She was such a lovely bride that Chidi felt so proud at his choice. He beamed with smiles, his joy obvious to all the guests. The carefully planned reception crowned the activity for the day. A life band gave soul to the wedding party. Bot couple and guests had a good time dancing. There was no boring moment and as Chidi gave the vote of thanks, there was no doubt in the minds of the attendees that this new couple would live happily ever after. And happily they did for the first one year of their marriage. It’s been 12 years since they got married and till date, there is yet to be heard the sound of the cry of a baby in that home. Although doctors can’t seem to find something wrong with her, she has been unable to conceive. In her quiet moment, a thought keeps playing on her mind. Is there a connection between the pregnancy she terminated and her present predicament? Could the hand of the Almighty be against her? That Nigerians love fashion and are fashionable is not in doubt. A few people would do anything in the name of fashion but is it necessary? Should looks come before a life? Should a wedding gown take the place of a developing life? Next time you are buying that shoe, bag or dress, pause to ask. Is anything precious suffering? THE TREND IN SCARFWith weather temperature falling due to incessant rain falls, a scarf tied or draped around the neck will provide that necessary warmth. But beyond providing warmth, a boring outfit could be made to pop with a simple scarf especially if you find a bright cheerful colour that suits your outfit. In adorning a scarf, like other fashion items, a few rules will guide you. -Don’t over accessorize -Make it a pot light accessory and draw attention away from other items you have on. -If you are wearing a pashmina around your neck for example, don’t overwhelm your look with it or else, you’d look like you are being choked -When doing a monochromatic look which is usually very chic but tricky to pull, see that you mix textures or else the look will be boring. Thos affected in the cabinet shake up are the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Francis Egele; the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industry, Ayakeme Massa; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Anapurere Michael Awoli; and the Commissioner for Tourism Development, Nelson Belief.
Others also dropped are the Commissioner for Special Duties (Federal Projects), Gesiye Isowo; Commissioner for Science, Technology and Manpower Development, Parkinson Macmanuel; and Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Sylvanus Abila.
The cabinet shake up, according to Governor Dickson, the move is in line with an ongoing reorganisation of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for a more optimal implementation of the Restoration agenda and improved service delivery.
The Governor’s chief press secretary, Daniel Iworiso Markson, said the sacked commissioners are requested to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their various ministries.
According to Markson, “His Excellency, Hon. Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State, personally expressed his gratitude to them for their commitment to service, diligence, hard work and invaluable contributions to the successes attained by the administration in the last two years.”.
He added: “the Governor wishes them well in all their future endeavours, as they could be called upon to serve the state in other capacities in future”.

National Confab: Adamawa Threatens Secession
The National Conference continued on a rancorous note on Wednesday
morning with one of the prominent monarchs at the forum, Muhammadu
Barkindo Aliyu Musdaphar, the Lamido Adamawa, threatening to pull his
people out of Nigeria over what he described as the “behaviour of some
elders who claimed to be supporters of President Jonathan.”
The traditional ruler who said he had tried unsuccessfully to speak for three days because he was not given the chance said the delegates who he refused to mention are putting the nation’s unity at risk with their behaviour.
Though some delegates attempted to shut him up with spontaneous shouts of “no, no, no” despite pleas by Justice Idris Kutigi that they should allow him to finish his speech, the traditional ruler continued speaking.
In obvious reference to controversies that have been generated over whether 75 per cent or 2/3 support of delegates will be needed to ratify a decision, especially when it is impossible to reach a consensus, the monarch said he was surprised at the behaviour of some delegates since President Goodluck Jonathan had already stipulated what can be discussed at the conference.
The Lamido therefore warned that his Kingdom transcends Nigeria and he is also ready to pull his people out if the country splits as a result of the action of some people at the conference. He said if his people are pushed to the wall, they can easily walk out of this country.
The Monarch added that “jingoism is not the preserve of anyone.”
“There is a state in Cameroon called Adamawa and if I run to that place, I can easily assimilate,” said the traditional ruler.
Meanwhile, the Conference adjourned till later in the day to enable delegates tackle the contentious issue of whether 75 per cent or 2/3 support of delegates should be needed to adopt a decision.
Justice Kutigi had directed his deputy, Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, to call out some leaders of the delegates for an urgent meeting to resolve the issue which has resulted in the South/North divide at the conference.
The issue of how voting would be conducted on crucial issues based on committee reports attracted heated debates, and following on suggestions by members, had to be stood down for further deliberation.
It was suggested that the Conference Chairman should invite leaders of the six geo-political zones for further consultation, deliberation and negotiation, and report back to the Conference.
During debates on the issue on Tuesday, those who said all issues should be resolved by consensus or at least 75 per cent majority vote refused to accept a resolution through individual votes, arguing that those who favoured two-third majority seem to be more in number.
Chief Edwin Clark cautioned that the position of both parties must not be allowed to stall proceedings at the conference and that to get out of the situation, delegates should vote on whether to accept three-quarter majority vote or two-third.
This position was rejected by Dr. Bello Mohammed from Kebbi State who insisted that every decision must be reached by consensus, arguing that the conference was not about majority or minority but was about the Nigerian state.
Former Commandant of the Presidential Air Fleet, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga said the argument was a straight tussle between those who wanted change and those who wanted retention of the status quo. He concluded that two-third majority vote remained the only solution.
Bashiru Albasu, a retired police officer cautioned delegates that, “if this issue is not handled carefully, it will break this Conference. I suggest that we refer this issue back to those who established this Conference.”.
In their contributions, both Fola Adeola from Ogun State and Atedo Peterside moved that the Conference Chairman meet with leaders of delegates from the six geo-political zones for further deliberation on the issue and report back to the Conference.
This was after a delegate, Okon Osung (Akwa Ibom State) noted that, “we cannot discuss any other issue successfully except we are guided by our rules.”
He was supported by Akin Oyebode from Ekiti State.
