CECH WINS NATIONAL AWARD AGAIN
Posted on: Tue 04 Mar 2014
Our goalkeeper has now won the award, decided by the Czech Football Association, for six consecutive years. He was already the record winner of the award having surpassed another goalkeeper, Ivor Viktor, last year.
Ahead of an international friendly with Norway tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, when Cech is set to win his 106th cap, the 31-year-old expressed his delight at winning the award yet again.
'It never gets boring regardless that it is for the first or seventh time,' said Cech. 'It is always appreciation of my work and further motivation especially as it comes from the people who follow football very closely.
'Apart from a few exceptions I have kept my performances at the same high level. There were matches when I made mistakes, but not many. I am going to try hard to win it again next season.'
The Footballer of the Year is decided by the Czech Football Association and is different from the Czech Golden Ball award which is voted for by journalists. Cech won that for an eighth time last June.
